Classic practice and race update

Tomorrow's practice will be classic. It will be great to change it up a bit. I heard good things about practice on Friday even with all the crowds. Thank you so much for parent help with all of that and for going out with different groups.

We will plan to skate ski on Friday in anticipation for our first race on Saturday. There is race info below and as you can see, the course is a little uncertain at this point. I am going to say we probably don't need skiers to get there until 11:30ish. It's really tough to gauge start times since we are completely dependent on how many high school skiers there are. Plan to bring some good warm up and cool down clothes, water, snack, and your team hat if you have one! PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOUR SKIER WILL NOT BE RACING THIS WEEKEND. FOR ANY NEW TEAM MEMBERS, IF YOU DO NOT FEEL READY TO RACE, PLEASE TALK TO ME AT PRACTICE. I WILL BE SENDING IN REGISTRATION WITH ALL OF OUR TEAM MEMBERS ON IT, so will need to know ASAP (let me know by Wednesday 1/12 at the latest please). Many thanks!

We will wax on Friday night at Sleepy Hollow. I am not sure how many skiers will be interested in waxing. This is not mandatory, but is something great to learn for future skiing and is expected at the high school level. It's also great for your skis and great for your speed. We will do an intro/mini clinic for those who have never waxed before.

Yes, I seem to be completely computer challenged. For some reason I can't get the text that I copied from the U-32 race email to show up in any color other than black so you can read the info I received on the race in the comment section below. That actually reminds me, if anyone, skiers or parents wants to comment on the blog, feel free. Skiers, if you have tips that might help your teammates, add them to the blog as a comment!

  1. DISTANCE: At the moment, our varsity (A) course is a single 2.6 mile loop; our B and middle school course is approximately 2 miles. While the snow is fairly good in the fields, it is a bit too thin in the woods for good skis. If people would prefer, I can do two laps of a shorter loop, and make a course that is three or four miles in length. Please let me know what you prefer. Our course is very spectator-friendly -- most of the course is visible to spectators from the top of the hill outside the Shapiro building.

WHEN: Saturday, 1/15/11. 10:00 A Boys, followed immediately by A girls; 20 minutes later, B boys, followed by B girls; 15 minutes later, Middle School boys, followed by middle school girls. Please have your skiers ready to go on time, as we are trying to move the meet right along and get everyone home sooner.

WHERE: The start and finish of our course is on the upper soccer field, at the far end of the parking lot, near the blue press box. The check-in and scoring area will be in the Shapiro building, a separate, smaller building near the far end of the parking lot.

STARTING PROCEDURE: Interval start. Two skiers every twenty seconds.
