Practice today and race this weekend!

Today was our first day skating. We had a huge group of skiers, so things were a little bit more chaotic than usual when I realized that all of us skiing as a big group out on the trails like the last practices wasn't going to happen. My apologies for that. Thank you to the parents that were there to help round up skiers and attempt to keep things organized.

Also a big thank you to Colin Masseau who was generous enough to come teach some skating basics with me. He enjoyed our group so much that he is interested helping us out some more this season when his schedule allows. This is great news as Colin is an excellent skier and comes from a skiing family (his father is the South Burlington High School coach and Colin and his brother were both great leaders on the CVU team when they were in high school) so he has lots to bring to the program.

We had a pretty successful day today although a bit disorganized. Our whole group did really well and even our first time skaters were getting the basic striding and pole timing down pretty well for the first day out. We reviewed some basics in the meadow and did some no pole skiing, which I have learned these guys aren't really fans of, but then got our poles and had a choice of skiing around a Lower Saddle-Tina Turner-Liberty Meadow loop or working on some more technique on Lower Saddle. Then we finished with a little downhill slalom course which helped us to work on snowplowing or step turning and keeping light on our feet while going downhill.

The U-32 race is going to be later than Sleepy Hollow was. The middle school start might not even be til 11:30am since they go after both the JV and Varsity high school skiers. I am double checking on estimates for start time and then will let you all know an arrival time for our group.

Friday will be skating again and don't forget the wax clinic!
