There is a pretty exciting sounding BKL race at Bolton this coming Saturday hosted by Mansfield Nordic. We were not planning on attending this race as a team (our next race is not until the weekend of February 6/7 if there is interest in racing at Trapps for the Eastern Cup, otherwise we are looking at freestyle relays on February 9th) and I just got the info on it, but skiers are encouraged to attend on their own if they would like. I can supply wax and help in the wax room on Friday after practice if desired. This would be a good opportunity for racers to work on their wax skills and it would be a small group with plenty of guidance as needed, so please let me know if there is interest.
They are calling the race a duathlon -- meaning that it has both classic and skating techniques. Skiers will do a classic loop then switch equipment and head out for a skate loop. Also advertised are great refreshments, awards, and a pool party. The cost is $6 and includes the pool party. Timing is as follows: Registration 10:30-11am, J2 & J3 (12-14 year old) 4km race at 11:15, J4 (10 & 11 year old) 11:45. There is also a lollipopper and J5 race. There are also slingshot relays (2 skiers and a rope) at 12:45, awards & refreshments at 1:15 and then the pool party at 1:30-2:00. Hey, wait a second...shouldn't that food come after the swimming?!
